Exploration of Compression-Only Floor Structures Using Cardboard Modules.

A form-finding study exploring compression-only floor systems as a low-carbon structural alternative — built from carbon-fibre-wrapped, foam-cut boxes and pipes, generated directly from a scanned point cloud of an existing site.

I worked on the computational pipeline that turns raw point-cloud data into a buildable structural mesh: a sequence of Grasshopper "events" — closest-point search, initial line and mesh-box generation, an XYZ-plane merge, then curve/loop/frame operations and a spatial deform step — that converts scan data into boxes and pipes ready for fabrication. The resulting form was fabricated using foam cutting for the volumetric modules and a carbon-fibre weaver for the structural webbing, then rendered and composited into its original site context.
